California Energy Commission Staff Workshop (May 15, 2008)

The California Energy Commission has scheduled a staff workshop for the NGVRR on May 15th, 2008. The purpose of the workshop (as described in the meeting notice):

"This workshop will review the development and recommendations of the draft final NGVRR. The NGVRR serves as a plan for funding NGV research projects and will be periodically updated to reflect the evolving state of NGV development. Thus, this workshop also seeks comments from NGV research stakeholders to identify areas of future refinement of the NGVRR.

"During the workshop, the NGVRR development team will discuss their vision for the NGV market, the recommended sequencing of RDD&D projects, and suggestions for future development of the NGVRR and RDD&D to implement the plan."

The Workshop will be held:
THURSDAY, MAY 15, 2008
10 a.m.
CALIFORNIA ENERGY COMMISSION
1516 Ninth Street
First Floor, Hearing Room B

Please visit the workshop notice and download the agenda for more information.

NGVRR Background

The California Energy Commission's PIER natural gas research program is developing a NGV research roadmap and BKi was hired to lead this effort. This involves active collaboration with other research institutions, utilities, and government agencies to define short- mid- and long-term goals and objectives, a gap analysis, and areas where public funds can be leveraged with other sources.

About $1 million in research funding has been allotted for 2008. CEC would prefer to leverage these funds in program cost share, perhaps enticing other agencies/companies to fund a portion of the research. As such, CEC is interested in funding the most strategically important and appropriate R&D projects that remove barriers to NGV market growth.

Timeline for Completion of the NGVRR

We distributed the first draft of the NGV Research Roadmap in advance of the August 24th NGVRR Workshop at Asilomar. At the August 24th workshop, NGV stakeholders discussed the R&D ideas contained in the draft NGVRR, with the goal of identifying the high priority R&D needs and a sequence in which these needs are addressed. The notes from the Workshop are available here.

After reviewing comments about the workshop results, we prepared a DRAFT-Final NGVRR and emailed a copy to NGV Stakeholders on January 11, 2008. After incorporating / addressing comments from the DRAFT-Final NGVRR, the final NGVRR has been submitted to PIER.

Information About the Asilomar NGVRR Workshop (August 24, 2007)

In our ongoing effort to refine and prioritize the R&D needs that will be identified in the PIERNG Natural Gas Vehicle Research Roadmap (NGVRR), we scheduled a NGV Research Roadmap workshop as follows:
Friday, August 24, 2007
1 to 5 pm, Triton Room
Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, CA

At the Workshop, attending stakeholders worked together to identify and rank top NGV R&D priorities for the near-term, based on ideas presented in the draft NGVRR document. The notes from the Workshop are available here. Please contact Scott Fable or call 510-444-8707 ext. 214, to be placed on our Roadmap e-mail list.
