CaTTs is the only privately-owned and commercially available vehicle testing facility in the country with chassis dynamometers suitable for heavy-duty vehicles.

CAVTC has a special contractual agreement to provide customer contact and project management services for the separately-owned CaTTS facility, which is located in Richmond near CAVTC's Hayward light-duty laboratory and offices. Through CAVTC, potential heavy-duty testing clients can obtain detailed information on CaTTS capabilities, pricing, scheduling, and contractual matters. CAVTC also oversees customer projects and provides ongoing support to customers throughout the process.

The CaTTS facility’s features and capabilities include:

• Emissions testing over various drive cycles
• Electric dynamometer with tandem 48" rolls and state-of-the-art computerized control capabilities including grade simulation
• Vehicle weight, power, and speed: GVW from 6,000 to 85,000 lb., power absorption up to 500 hp at rolls, speeds up to 75 mph
• Vehicle size: Up to 65 feet long with single or tandem drive axles
• Axle dead load: hydraulic simulator
• Temperature-controlled engine air supply
• Bag-dilute and dilute modal emissions analysis capabilities for CO, NOx, CO2, HC, and CH4
• Particulate mass measurement and size distribution capability
