Technical Assistant/Writer (closed)

Are you proficient in both technical and marketing styles? Can you work effectively with creative graphic designers and geeky engineers? So you like lots of variety in your work, including web research and project tracking? We need a tech assistant and writer to help keep projects moving as well as to create brochures, technical briefs, fact sheets, newsletters, journal articles, technical reports, and occasional Web pages. Topics center on energy but vary widely, requiring willingness to learn about new technologies. One day you could be writing a tech brief for engineers about single-crystal turbine blades; the next day you could be creating a consumer brochure to convince homeowners to install more efficient furnaces; later you could be contacting contractors to schedule training.

This position requires fearless confrontation with diverse technologies, including the ability to extract, organize and analyze information from diverse sources (such as enthusiastic but clarity-impaired engineers and their documents) to produce sensible and convincing descriptions.

To succeed in this position, you must:

  • Write like a dream
  • Translate technospeak
  • Copyedit consistently
  • Juggle judiciously
  • Proofread peerlessly
  • Appropriately target message and tone to intended audience
  • Exhibit grace and humor under budget and deadline pressures
  • Deal effectively with clients

We’re accustomed to winning writing awards and expect that caliber of work from you. Previous experience in electric power generation and end-use energy efficiency is an advantage, but not required.

We assume proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Quark, HTML and/or Dreamweaver are definite pluses.
